One common mistake we find is that the communications team is often an afterthought. Don’t wait until after the community hates the project.
Strategic communication should have been in your blueprint.
The communications team should lay the groundwork with the local community, elected officials, and media. They can help set up focus groups, identify local groups’ needs and concerns, and develop a strategic communications plan to address them and highlight the positives.
If you don’t start with a strong communications plan and the community begins to hate the project, it will cost you time and money. You will need to build relationships, educate the public and use precious time to turn a negative perception into a neutral one.
